The coolest places to buy clothes in 1984

By wildnewyork

Budding trendsters in the early 1980s did their shopping at Broadway and Astor Place or in the East Village. Where else could you find a cheap shapeless men’s overcoat on which to stick your Big Audio Dynamite pin, or a heavily shoulder-padded oversize suit jacket to accent your rhinestone earrings?

Antique Boutique was a major destination, with rows and rows of old baseball jackets and vintage jeans.

Cheap Jack’s eventually moved to Broadway and 13th Street. They’re now on Fifth Avenue and 31st Street.
