The mural makes its point loud and clear; the rusted cross attached to the chain-link fence is more subdued.
The photo was taken at least two years ago, so it’s possible the memorial’s been painted over and this empty lot now hosts a new co-op or some other building.
It’s one of dozens of homegrown memorials that sprang up after September 11, some of which have been collected here in Brooklyn Street Art blog.

The mural is still there in Gowanus, near Smith and 9th Sts. I saw it yesterday, 9/10/11.

I’m glad to hear it. I was afraid it was painted over and covered up by these Gowanus hotels I keep hearing about….
