A vintage view of Rockefeller Center’s rooftop

Rockefeller Center is still a hugely popular tourist attraction. But some things have changed.

First of all, it hasn’t been the RCA building since the 1980s. Second, look at that skimpy railing! Isn’t there a much taller security barrier around the rooftop now?

    There are big glass walls on the first two floors of the observatory, but the upper floor still only has a railing! However the flowery perks make the observatory look oddly wide…. None of the observatory floors are that wide… And the flowers are probably long gone too. It makes me curious, do you think they added floors after this was taken?

    Theres a ~6 foot glass wall now, which is actually one of the least intrusive security walls ive seen. Much better than the chainlink on the ESB deck.

    The Queen Mary is sailing into the harbor which indicates this was prior to the late 1960s. Women wearing dress coats and men in hats and suits says mid 60s to me or earlier.
