Carpenters, printers, sign painters, jobbers…just the kind of workers who kept New York City growing in the mid-1800s when this picture was taken somewhere in lower Manhattan.

I wonder what you could get from the drug broker back then and how easy it was to get it.

Pharmacists are funny guys. And despite the onslaught of Rite Aids and Duane Reades, independent drugstores are still holding their own. Mishkin’s, on Amsterdam in the 140s, has been around since 1890. I wonder if it’s related to the Mishkin’s in Bushwick.
