The lovely stained glass at J train stations

Many city subway stations are decorated with stained glass art. But there seems to be a lot of it on the J line, installed over the last decade.

Coincidence? I have no idea. But it’s lovely to look at as the train snakes along a succession of elevated stops through Williamsburg and Bushwick.

Above is a panel depicting space travel from a piece installed in 2005. It’s on the Marcy Avenue stop called A Space Odyssey, by Ellsworth Ausby.

I love the mass transit theme on the stained glass windows, titled Dream Train, at the Gates Avenue station. They were created by Chris Robinson and installed in 2002.

The Broadway Junction station is unattractive and utilitarian, except for the more than 70 stained glass panels lining the upper level collectively titled Brooklyn, New Morning.

Artist Al Loving geometrics were installed in 2001. You can see other examples of his work at the Whitney and the Met.
