The October 1982 lineup looks pretty good at rock/new wave venue the Peppermint Lounge, which had just moved downtown to 100 Fifth Avenue earlier that year.

This ad comes from the September 1982 issue of neighborhood arts and entertainment newspaper the East Village Eye.

Echo & the Bunnymen! Public Image Ltd! The July 1982 lineup at early-80s rock club Peppermint Lounge is very post-punk Reagan era:

This version of the Peppermint Lounge existed at 100 Fifth Avenue from 1980 to 1985 and was a premier showcase for new wave and alternative bands.

It’s a different incarnation of the Peppermint Lounge on 45th Street that became famous in the 1960s as the nightclub that popularized go-go dancing and the Twist.

Tom Verlaine at the Peppermint Lounge, 1982

Television’s Tom Verlaine had a solo show scheduled at early-80s New Wave/punk venue Peppermint Lounge 26 years ago this weekend, according to this ad from the East Village Eye.

This final incarnation of the Peppermint Lounge (it was originally a dance club in midtown in the 1960s) has been kaput since the mid-80s; today it’s a Bebe, the women’s clothing store.

The Peppermint Lounge is preserved forever in all its grunginess on DVD in a scene from the great 1982 movie Smithereens.
