“Sun Set at Gowanus Bay”

An 1851 oil painting by Australian artist Henry Gritten. The full title is “Sun Set at Gowanus Bay in the Bay New York” and the original hangs in the Allport Library and Museum of Fine Arts in Tasmania.

    Great site … I’ve enjoyed browsing back through this spring’s postings (and will return for more).

    In response to your May 23 posting about the LO telephone exchange — it’s probably Longacre (mid-Manhattan) — another possibility is Lorraine (Inwood).

    thanks for calling attention to thids longlost new york painting. think it’s viewed by folks in tasmania who then think gowanus bay is still so printine?
