Founded in 1850 as just a shipping company, American Express had its headquarters as well as a warehouse with stables (for the horses that actually lugged the packages around, of course) on lower Hudson Street in the late 19th century.
Amex has long vacated the premises, but the name and watchdog logo remain several stories up on the brick facade.
That’s one tough-looking pup—check out the collar on him!

That is an American Pit Bull Terrier. I know that face very well since my daughter had a couple of them. Now we just know them as Pit Bulls. They have a terrible reputation now because of the drug dealers and people that are into dog fighting that train them to be mean. If raised properly, they can actually be very gentle. Petey of the Little Rascals is a good example.

I agree, they’re actually a gentle yet protective breed. American Express must have known that or they wouldn’t have used them as a mascot.
